Four men were apprehended by local law enforcement officers in Florida early Monday morning for stealing over $500,000 worth of Tequila, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) announced in a statement on Monday.
The HSCO statement said that a truck driver hauling a semi-tractor trailer of about 966Patron Tequila with a total value of $507,105 stopped at a truck stop in Tampa, Florida off of U.S. N Highway 301 for dinner Sunday night at approximately 11 p.m.
The truck driver noticed that the 53’ trailer he was hauling was missing and notified local authorities.
Hillsborough County Sheriff’s deputies began searching the area and found the four men with the trailer parked at the intersection of Ike Smith Road and McIntosh Road at about 12:30 a.m. Monday.
The deputies reported that they observed the four men moving cases of the stolen tequila into a box truck before moving in to apprehend the suspects.
When the deputies moved in, they were able to arrest three of the men, Vidal Estrada, 66, Humberto Ramirez, 37, and Alberto Obaya, 46, at the scene without any incident, HSCO reported. Lemuel Escobar, 35, attempted to flee the scene but was found nearby and arrested.
HCSO reported that all four men were charged with grand theft, burglary of an unoccupied conveyance, and resisting arrest without violence. Obaya was additionally charged with possession of a controlled substance.

At the time deputies arrested the four men, 20 cases had been loaded into the box truck, HCSO reported. HCSO also reported that the box truck was registered to the four men.
